Melbourne singer-songwriter and producer Banoffee returns with her shimmering new single ‘Tapioca Cheeks’ and it’s accompanying video. The track was written just before the pandemic hit, during her last studio session in Los Angeles with PC Music’s Planet 1999.
Banoffee says of the song, “it’s about the fears that come with diving in with someone. How love can be awful as well as wonderful at the same time, because it’s just so damn scary. ‘Tapioca Cheeks’ is a dedication to someone, for them to feel loved and held even when they feel completely incapable or unlovable.”
‘Tapioca Cheeks’ marks the first music from Banoffee since her collaboration with Sydneyproducer Perto, ‘I Miss You’. That release had shortly followed her debut album in early 2020, Look At Us Now Dad, which PAPER Magazine described as “beautiful in the most devastating sense of the word”. Her breakout, that featured collaborations with SOPHIE, Empress Of, Cupcakke, Umru was an uplifting, hopeful journey that celebrates survival in the face of abuse and adversity. The album won international acclaim from Billboard, Stereogum, Rolling Stone and NME. She has also supported Taylor Swift on a worldwide stadium tour as part of Charlie XCX’s troupe.
