Norwegian wunderkinds, The Electones evoke an Icelandic sensibility as they blend the sounds of Múm, Björk and Amiina with modern folk, the birth of electronica and a ‘60s aesthetic to create their experimental-pop debut, If You’ll Be Null, I’ll Be Void. The Electones is the angelic looking brainchild of two anomalies, Jens Petter Nilsen and Hallvard Wennersberg Hagen – the two-man band (who play 15 instruments between them) behind the Norwegian electro-funk outfit, Xploding Plastix. Jens Petter Nilsen is a musician of diverse talents, performing on electric and acoustic violin, mandolin, and guitar, as well as flute, saxophone, and keyboard. In 1993 he met Hallvard and The Electones was born. The Electones released two 12” records in 2002 and 2003 respectively.

The sound is ethereal, progressive and leftfield – drawing allusions to the likes of Stereolab, Tortoise and The Beta Band. Originally formed as an experimental collaboration between Jens Petter, Hallvard and singer Rita Augestad Knudsen, the album evolved into a wider collaborative effort. Adding the voices of Kaja Haven, Endre Bjotveit and Erland Dahlen, the latter also on drums, percussion & saw, plus Bjørn Charlie Dreyer and Lars Fredrik Frøisli on various instruments, If You’ll Be Null, I’ll Be Voice became a multi-layered slice of dreamy electro infused pop.

“Yes Yes Yes… so immaculate, so delightful, so impossibly cool it could make even the most cynical f*cker believe in love again” – 5/5 Jockey Slut

“Steps confidently not to mention beautifully between the realms of jazz, electronica, classical and acoustic folk. Class!” - DJ Magazine
