KIDS AT RISK are a four-piece neo Grunge collective out of Sydney. The brainchild of a handful of local music fiends, the outfit come from conflicting musical disciplines with the shared passion of rock n roll bringing them together to create piece of melodic mastery. Perfectly penned through dual songwriting duties, their sound unconsciously creates a point of reference, evoking names such as early Cream and The Pixies, whilst still maintaining a fiery, unique and current aesthetic.
With an abundance of experience under the belts that hold up their not-so-skinny jeans, the foursome have all experienced musical careers in their own rights. Most recently known for working with Pete Mayes (PNAU) firstly under the moniker the Vendettas and then The Hate Game, singer and songwriter Larissa Rate swaps roles with The Hate Game Bass Player, Sep Caton in their new project, KIDS AT RISK. Former lead singer of electronic indie band Daddy Matador, Lee Devaney joins the fold as lead guitarist and collaborator, with relentless rock drummer Kai Chambers seamlessly completing the foursome.
Their debut single, Sugar (released digitally 14 November) is a saccharine sweet tribute to indie pop/rock, yet retains their effortlessly cool neo Grunge sound that will be explored in more detail on their upcoming EP – to be released early 2010. The outfit have shared stages with the likes of Hot Little Hands, Deep Sea Arcade, Seekae, Tom Ugly and The Tutts (NZ). Check out their myspace for upcoming live shows.
