Move over, Tinkerbell, there are new ‘fairys’ in town. Fagget Fairys – the Copenhagen based lesbian ghettofunk, pop-slamming MD/DJ duo, are here with big grimy basslines, sensual vocals, and saucy Balkan styles. Fagget Fairys is the story of the 19 year old Ena - model, club kid, and all-around bad ass - who after a brief meeting at the Copenhagen nightclub, Vega, fell hard for the DJ, Carla Cammilla Hjort aka DJ Sensimilla, ten years her senior. Two years after the fateful evening, they are engaged to be married, and ready with their smash debut full length album, Feed The Horse, recorded and produced in New York City with Grammy award winning Dane, Rasmus Bille Bähncke (Elton John, Mary J Blige, Backstreet Boys). Because Bähncke had no particular preconceptions of how club music should sound, but knew exactly how to cut a hit pop song… the result became the ever-elusive club/pop crossover album. Feed the Horse is both a club and solid pop album full of catchy riffs, organic instruments, and varied melodic structure.
For the past six years, Carla Cammilla has lived and worked as a professional DJ in Copenhagen. With her art-music-fashion collective (ArtRebels), the annual 3 day music festival she started (Trailer Park Festival), as well as the her no-nonsense approach to cultural progress, she's become known as one of the most catalytic and creative forces in Copenhagen. Ena arrived in a Danish refugee camp as a one-year-old, after her Muslim parents were forced to flee a crumbling Yugoslavia, in the midst of civil war. Despite her young age, Ena has had a successful runway model career, high school drop out, vocalist and soon to be cafe owner. With Carla Cammilla's superb mixing and knob twiddling and Ena's untouchable vocal performances. Fagget Fairys have impressed crowds from New York City to Berlin to Copenhagen to Paris. With their debut EP, Samo Ti, released in 2008 by New York label, Palms Out Sounds, featuring remixes from club darlings Drop the Lime & AC Slater among others, the Fairys' rumored full length debut became a hot ticket, and it was quickly snatched up by Danish club-icon Kenneth Bager, for his Music For Dreams imprint. Now, Brumby Distribution delivers the sound of the European hit ladies to our shores to keep the Summer alive.
